Publication Account (17 December 2011)
Situated across the River Nith from the forts and camps at Dalswinton, the two camps at Ellisland were recorded as cropmarks in 1949 and 1960 by St Joseph from the air. Camp I measures 101m from NNE to SSW by 65m transversely, enclosing 0.66ha (1.6 acres), although the eastern corner of the camp has been eroded by the river. An entrance gap protected by a titulus is visible in the centre of the SSW side. In the south-west portion of the camp lies camp II, which uses part of the SSW and WNW sides. This camp measures 61m from NNE to SSW by 53m and encloses 0.32ha (less than 1 acre). It may share the same entrance gap and titulus in its SSW side as camp I.
