(NX 6439 5581) Ancient Earthwork (NAT)
OS 6" map (1957)
When visited by the RCAHMS, this feature was practically obliterated. Coles describes its situation as fairly high, but by no means conspicuous, on ground only slightly higher than the surroundings. Only traces existed in 1893 of a circular rampart, enclosing an area 72' in diameter. Ten years previously, its stones were removed for building dykes. The remnants, almost ploughed out by 1893, were not ploughed through when the stones were removed, as they were too hard.
F R Coles 1893; RCAHMS 1914, visited 1911.
Nothing remains of this enclosure, except an occasional boulder protruding from the turf, and little detail is visible on air photographs (106G/Scot/UK42: 3246-7, flown 1946) its size and position possibly suggests a homestead.

Field Visit (15 May 1990)
The site of this enclosure, noted from aerial photographs by the OS, lies in a heavily improved field some 500m SW of Irelandton and no trace could be seen. A field boundary on the current 1:10,000 map has now been removed, but the line was visible as a slight hollow running through the field.
