Archaeology Notes

NX17SE 31 1593 7222.

A hut-circle is situated on a SW-facing slope on the E side of a burn that drains the SE flank of Drumanee into the Davenholme Burn. The hut-circle measures 9.5m in diameter within a wall up to 0.5m high and spread to a maximum thickness of 2m. The entrance is on the SE, facing towards a probable entrance through the perimeter of the surrounding enclosure. Enternally the enclosure extends to about 0.55 ha, an irregularly shaped area measuring a maximum of 115m from NE to SW by 65m transversely. The NW side of the enclosure is largely obscured by peat, but elsewhere the perimeter is visible as a stony bank up to 2.5m thick or a low stony scarp.

RCAHMS 1987, visited (SH) 9 July 1985
