(NX 1741 7827) Cairn (NR) (Remains of)

OS 6" map (1957)

The remains of a cairn, 10m in diameter and 0.6m in maximum height, in whose centre the remains of a burial chamber lie exposed.

Visited by OS (JLD) 1 November 1955

Four stones remain of the chamber of a chambered cairn probably of the Bargrennan group. The chamber has been about 9 feet long and 3 feet wide and a large rounded boulder set on end 3ft 9ins high at the east end may be interpreted as the portal stone of a chamber facing east or the back-slab of a chamber facing west.

A S Henshall 1972, visited 1956

This cairn has been completely destroyed by a Forestry Commission quarry.

Visited by OS (JP) 27 April 1976
