The remains of nineteen shieling huts and two enclosures are scattered over rocky ground for a distance of about 470m on the NE side of Cairnerzean Fell.
RCAHMS 1987, visited (PC) 1985-6
Two enclosures marked by pecked lines and lying approximately 350m apart, one of which is subdivided and annotated Hay Ree, are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Wigtonshire 1848, sheet 11), but they are not shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1977).
Information from RCAHMS (SAH) 30 September 1999.
Field Visit (24 March 2022)
What may be a well is situated in a reed-filled hollow on the summit of a ridge to the W of a hut circle (NX16NW 12). It is defined by a partly collapsed drystone wall on the S, W and N, while a large earthbound rock is located immediately to its E. The damp interior appears to have been infilled with boulders.
