(NX 0856 7723) Carlock Cairn (NR) (Remains of)

OS 6" map (1957)

The slight remains of a round cairn of loose stone circa 20 yds in diameter situated on the highest point of Carlock or Caerlock Hill, and trisected by dykes built from its material in the 19th century. During the robbing (J Smith 1895) human bones of enormous size (Name Book 1856) were found. Only a slight bank remains on the south and east, while on the west a vague outline is visible, but there is nothing left on the north.

Little remains of a cairn about 16m in diameter which occupies the summit of Carlock Hill; in the 19th century human bones were found in it.
