(NC 7343 0420) Cairn (NR)

OS 1:10,000 map, (1971)

The remains of a large cairn in an elevated and conspicuous position. It has been heavily robbed but the centre which is still about 6ft high seems intact. It has measured about 60ft in diameter. There is no indication of its character.

RCAHMS 1911, visited 1910.

A cairn generally as described by the RCAHMS except that it now measures 12m in diameter and 1.6m high, with some spill on the downwards side.

Visited by OS (N K B) 9 February 1966.

The cairn is on a spur on a SE-facing hillside. Much of its W and E sector has been destroyed, and elsewhere the periphery has been masked by slip onto the slope. The cairn stands 1.0m high, and, given the positional limitations, probably measured somewhere in the region of 11.0 to 12.0m diameter on ground plan.

Revised at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (J M) 31 March 1981.

Activities

Field Visit (4 July 1995)

All that can now be seen of this cairn is a bracken-covered heap of stones, much of it probably field clearance, which measures about 13.5m from NW to SE by 10.6m transversely and stands about 1.5m high.

(ROG95 810)

Visited by RCAHMS (PJD) 4 July 1995
