(NC 7283 0341) Cairn (NR)
OS 1:10,000 map, (1971)
A large cairn entirely overgrown with birch scrub. The ground slopes away towards the east from which direction the cairn rises to a height of about 14ft, while the elevation on the west is about 6ft. It does not appear to have been excavated, nor is there any indication of its character.
RCAHMS 1911, visited 1909.
An oval cairn is described by the RCAHMS, its diameters being 23m E-W by 17m transversely. An inner cove of medium sized stone measures 10m E-W by 7m. There is no trace of perestalith or chamber.
Resurveyed at 1:2500.
Visited by OS (RD) 9 February 1979.
The cairn is on a wooded spur. It is difficult to ascertain the ground plan as the cairn has been enlarged by stones resulting from field clearance. A more realistic size is 10.0m by 8.0m across and 1.0m high.
Revised at 1/2500.
Visited by OS (JM), 19 March 1981.
Field Visit (4 July 1995)
There are now no traces of this cairn which was recorded by RCAHMS in 1911. Piles of field-gathered stone can be seen on the slopes of the wooded rise on which the cairn stood.
Visited by RCAHMS (PJD), 4 July 1995.
