NT71NE 20 7652 1666.

NT 765 166. A dilapidated round cairn, 22' (6.7m) in diameter by 2'6" (0.76m) high, stands at an elevation of 1000' (305m) on the small summit 170 yds (155m) W of Chatto Craig fort (NT71NE 43). The top has been extensively dug into and thirty small stones appear through the turf.

RCAHMS 1956, visited 1938.

NT 7653 1667. This cairn is as described.

Surveyed at 1:10,000.

Visited by OS (IA) 18 July 1973.

NT 7652 1666. No change. The thirty stones mentioned (RCAHMS 1956) refer to random protusions of the composition and not to any design within or around the cairn.

Surveyed at 1:10,000.

Visited by OS (JRL) 5 November 1979.

Activities

Field Visit (20 October 1999)

NT71NE 20 7652 1666

The robbed remains of this cairn are situated on a prominent summit in improved pasture 600m SSW of Upper Chatto farmsteading (NT71NE 132); it commands a broad vista in all directions except the E, the view being blocked in this direction by Chatto Craig fort NT71NE 43. The cairn measures 5.2m in diameter and 0.3m in height but the central dip measures about 3m across so that it now appears as little more than a ring of stones.

(Kale99 162)

Visited by RCAHMS (RJCM, PJD, MR), 20 October 1999.
