Archaeology Notes

NT53NW 28 52 37.

The first mention of Allanhaugh or Allanmouth Peel which stands in the Allan Valley, appears to be in 1483. It was a high square tower, with walls several feet thick. It belonged to the Scotts, and the last person to occupy it was a brother of Sir Walter Scott of Buccleuch.

R E Scott 1935

Local enquiries revealed no information relating to the site of this tower. (but see NT53NW 21 : is this the same tower?)
