The first mention of Allanhaugh or Allanmouth Peel which stands in the Allan Valley, appears to be in 1483. It was a high square tower, with walls several feet thick. It belonged to the Scotts, and the last person to occupy it was a brother of Sir Walter Scott of Buccleuch.
