Mansfield Mills House [NAT]
OS (GIS) MasterMap, November 2009.
(Location cited as NT 506 153). Mansfield Mills, built 1880-1929 by James Renwick and Co. Three 3-storey and attic front blocks, the oldest 6-bay, a 4-bay building, and a 7-bay structure, all rubble-built, the two latter with mansard roofs. At the rear are single-storey weaving sheds.
J R Hume 1974.
From 1882 and for at least the next 7 years, Samuel Fingland, (hosiery and glove manufacturer) appears to have begun operations at Mansfield Mill from buildings literally constructed in his backyard. From 1891 onwards the partnership of hosiery manufacturers, Turner and Rutherford took over the running of Mansfield Mill. For the most part this mill appears to have remained a relatively small enterprise, for only after 1898 was there any further growth from it's original small beginnings.
