Crichton-dean, Roman Coins NT 40 61 NT46SW 19
In 1785 twelve coins, possibly a hoard of the Constantinian period, were presented to the Society of Antiquaries. They were said to have been found in a 'Roman encampment on the estate of Crichton-dean', usually taken to mean the fort at Longfaugh (NT46SW 10). Other coins of the 'Trajan-Hadrian period' are said to have been found in the neighbourhood of the Crichton Mains souterrain (NT46SW 11), which lies about 350m WNW of the Longfaugh fort.
