Note (1988)

Arniston, Ouernstone NT 32 59 NT35NW 22

In 1828 an upper stone from a rotary quern found on Arniston Estate was given to the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (RMS, BB 41). It is of red sandstone, about 0.3m in diameter; the narrow handle-hole perforating the upper angle of the stone is an unusual feature, but comparable examples were found at the Parkburn long cist cemetery (NT26NE 28).
