A natural fissure on the cliff face SW of the ruin of St Anthony's Chapel (NT27SE 41).
RCAHMS 1951.
This object is now only a small hole among irregular basalt rocks. It was formerly the entrance to a small cave, but is now nearly filled up. It is said to have been the residence of a hermit prior to the building of the Hermitage (NT27SE 41).

This cave is little more than a narrow opening in the rock outcrop, which was strewn with modern litter on the date of visit.

Condition Survey (February 1996)
The cave measures c. 1 - 1.5m wide, 2m deep and c. 1.2m high. Outside the entrance and within the small cave is bare of vegetation and full of modern litter.

Condition Survey (12 March 2018 - 15 April 2018)
The 2018 CFA Archaeology Ltd condition survey found the site previously described described. The cave contained modern litter and the entrance to the cave suffers from some modern graffiti carving.
