NT 27744 73217 (centred on) A condition survey was undertaken, March – April 2018, which revealed that visitor footfall erosion represents the greatest threat to the archaeological remains within Holyrood Park. Most of the sites in the park are being affected to some degree with aggressive damage occurring to sites in the areas on the eastern side and near the summit of Arthurs Seat. The sites of the eastern slopes of Whinny Hill are suffering from erosion due to the presence of extensive areas of gorse and the paths that form between these areas. Some of these sites were, until recently, hidden by the gorse coverage and are only now having their existence or full extents recognised after a recent LIDAR survey.
