(NT 0046 4997) Cairn (NR)

OS 25" map (1974)

The SW end slab and capstone were noted missing by RCAHMS in 1976, though the former appears in a photograph by OS (DWR) in 1971.

Surveyed at 1:2500

Visited by OS (DWR) 20 August 1971.

Field Visit (September 1976)

NT 004 499. This cairn, measuring 6.7m from NW to SE by 6.1m transversely and not more than 0.6m in height, differs from other cairns in the vicinity in that it may be seen to contain a short cist. When examined by the Commission's officers, the cist, which is a parallelogram in shape and is built upon the old land surface, was found to be empty, having been previously disturbed; it measures 0.76m by 0.31m internally and 0.61m deep. Both the SW end slab and capstone were missing.

RCAHMS 1978, visited September 1976.
