(Name: NT 0888 4976) Field System (NR)

OS 25" map (1973)

When visited in 1971, this was described as a field system consisting of clearance cairns, as described by the RCAHMS, and small stretches of lynchets (which they do not note). The turf-and-stone field boundary mentioned by the RCAHMS is relatively modern, similar to others in the area.

Field Visit (September 1975)

Between the West Water and the plantation on the W side of the Dunsyre Burn there are about forty-five small cairns up to 5.0m in diameter and no more than 0.6m in height They are scattered to N and S of a turf-and-stone field boundary.

(For discussion on the period and purpose of small cairns of this type, see NT05SE 3).
