Field Visit (September 1975)
NS 928 305. Barrows (probable), Muirhead: About 275m N of the cairn described on NS 93 SW 1, there are two small circular mounds lying approximately 75m apart. They measure about 6m in diameter and 0.3m in height, and appear to be composed mainly of earth. The more easterly exhibits intermittent traces of an enclosing ditch, about 1.0m in width and 0.15m in depth, and a ditch of similar proportions is visible in the SE quadrant of the other.
The regularity of plan of the mounds, and their lack of stone content, make it unlikely that they are the result of field clearance, and it seems probable that they belong to a class of barrows already noted in Peeblesshire. Several low mounds in the vicinity of the westernmost example may represent the mutilated remains of similar barrows.
RCAHMS 1978, visited September 1975.
Field Visit (6 February 1979)
NS93SW 11 9283 3041.
NS 9283 3041. A sub-circular grass and heather covered mound 4.5m in diameter and 0.3m high. It is situated within an area of uneven ground and minor mutilations and cannot be classified as a barrow with any certainty. There is a similar mound about 70.0m to the E and a number of smaller ones in the general vicinity.
