OS 25" map, (1972).

Macgibbon and Ross illustrate a circular, domed dovecot with three string-courses near to Covington Tower.

This intact dovecot, which is as illustrated, is a typical 16th century beehive type.

Activities

Excavation (1984)

The inside of this beehive dovecot was cleared of 1.5m of soil and st ones. Only a depression in the sub-strata was found showing a central pole had been installed to give access to the nests. The dovecot is being restored by Biggar Museum Trust.
