NS 967 209. Unenclosed Platform Settlement: Seven platforms are disposed in line along the 300m contour on the NE slope of Corbury Hill. One measures 15.3m in width, two 14.6m, three 14.0m and one 12.8m.

Field Visit (14 August 1978)

NS92SE 15 9673 2102.

Centred NS 9673 2102. The seven platforms are as described, with front and rear scarps ranging from 1.0 to 3.0m in height. An eighth platform, of similar dimensions, was located approximately 70.0m NE of this group at NS 9681 2103. No field plots or terracing were found in the vicinity.

Surveyed at 1:2500 and 1:10 000.

Visited by OS (JRL) 14 August 1978.

Field Visit (1992)

Ward describes and plans another three platforms to the N of the eight previously described.

To the SE of the platforms are five cairns measuring 3m to 6m in diameter and 0.2m to 0.4m high. Two short lengths of a break in slope suggest lynchets, one cairn is lying on the upper bank at the point where it is angled.

The area of ground to the N and NW has been used for turf stripping and a circular feature measuring 30m in diameter [NS 9664 2118] has been caused by this activity which is of recent date.

T Ward 1992.
