OS 25" map (1962)
This ruined cairn occupies the summit of a wooded knoll (700ft OD) near Wellwood. Its W side is slightly concave, with well-defined corners; the SW extremity still has its corner stone, a large boulder, in situ. It was excavated by Fairbairn in 1918, and restored after completion. He found, at ground level in the centre of the cairn, a flat whinstone, 1ft 6ins x 1ft 4ins x 10ins on edge, facing E-W, also two flat sandstone boulders, all suggesting the remains of a cist. Five fragments of a beaker (Clarke's N2 type, now in the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS: Accession no EGA 106) were found in the soil in the vicinity of the slabs.
(A Fairbairn 1922; 1927; D L Clarke 1970)
At this site are the well-preserved remains of a cairn, 5.5m in diameter and 1.0m maximum height. It is composed of small stones overgrown with moss and bracken. The exposed portion of the corner stone measures 0.8m x 0.6m.

Field Visit (18 March 1992)
This cairn is situated on a wooded ridge to the W of Wellwood Kennels and was excavated and reconstituted by Fairbairn (A Fairbain 1927) who discovered what may have been a ruined cist and five fragments of what was probably a collared urn.
