Archaeology Notes

NS57NE 12 5765 7945.

Cultivation Terraces, Troughstone. From a point just E of Troughstone Cottages as far as the E boundary of the policies of Ballagan House, the lower-most slopes of the hillside, just above the highway, are marked with numerous lengths of terracing, irregularly placed. Though less distinct than those at Campsie (No. 506), they are evidently cultivation terraces which have survived on an area which was unsuitable for other agricultural methods. The negative lynchets are generally up to 2ft or 3ft high, but one close to Troughstone reaches a height of about 7ft.

RCAHMS 1963, visited 11 August 1953

As described by the Commission. Not considered worthy of survey.
