(NS 32797449) Vault (NR)

OS 1:500 map (1859).

(NS 32847452) Tower (NAT)

OS 25" map (1968).

A little E of Newark Castle is an old circular pigeon house with the remains of two walls jutting out from it, and to the SW is an old vault, apparently as old as the castle.

Name Book 1856.

The tower noted as 'pigeon house' appears to have been a corner wall tower, with two small fragments of wall beginning to run W and S.

(The site of the vault appears to have been built upon).

Visited by OS (JD) 25 July 1955.
