Archaeology Notes

NS37NE 12 3953 7524.

(NS 3953 7524) The Tolbooth was situated nearly at the junction of College Street and High Street, and exactly opposite the street since opened up to the Quay. It was removed 1830-2 and replaced by Heggie's Buildings.

In 1635 it was said to be ruinous, and in 1639 a sum of money was granted for its rebuilding.
