Desk Based Assessment (18 January 2018)
Nothing now exists in an area occupied by dry dock services and marine facilities of the Scott Lithgow Training Centre, which was built in 1968 and stood immediately north of the James Watt Dock. The school was built as a result of the merging of the companies of Lithgows Ltd. and Scotts Shipbuilding and Engineering Co. Ltd, and it worked in cooperation with the Shipbuilding Industry Training Board, providing training for the shipbuilding industry throughout Scotland and the UK. The school ceased operation in 1981 following a general decline in shipbuilding. An archaeological watching brief in 2011 noted its recent demolition and the remains of floors and foundations (WP004280). The training centre archives are held at the Glasgow University Archive Services (GB 0248 GD 323/19).
