Archaeology Notes

NA74NW 2 7238 4683

A constructed well was discovered, not very far from the lighthouse (NA74NW 6.00) on Eilean Mor, by the keepers about the beginning of 1968.

(Information from the Stornoway Gazette and West Coast Advertiser, 2 March 1968).

A stone lined oval well 1.5m by 1.0m by 0.5m deep in which there is a slight seepage of water lies above a geo at NA 7238 4673. It may be associated with St Flannan's chapel (NA74NW 1), but no evidence for this was found.

Visited by OS (R D) 16 July 1971.
