This stone, which leans W, measures 6' x 1' x 9". It is wedged into a rock cleft with small stones. Campbell suggests it may have been set up by the wreckers of the nearby fort (NR76NW 2). The Ordnance Survey Name Book (ONB 1868), however, records the demolition of the fort, and referring to this stone, quotes the tradition that it was erected "by the Danes".

This stone is as described. Both traditions still survive. Its situation on the cliff top and the way in which it has been wedged into a cleft tend to suggest that it is not prehistoric.

Field Visit (June 1983)
Situated on the crest of the coastal cliffs 650m W of Cretshengan, this stone has been set upright in a cleft in the rocks (Campbell and Sandeman 1964). Its position suggests, however, that it is a navigation marker rather than a prehistoric standing stone. Aligned E and W and now leaning to the W, it is 1.6m high and 0.6m by 0.25m at the base.
