Archaeology Notes

NR61NE 23 6858 1503

NR 686 148 The remains of an oval dun are situated at a height of 75m OD on the top of a steep-sided conical hill 275m SE of Killellan House. The wall, now represented by a band of debris 3m thick and about 0.2m high, encloses an area measuring 10.5m by 6m. No facing-stones are visible and the position of the entrance cannot be distinguished. An outer work consisting of a rampart and a ditch has been drawn round the dun to afford further protection, but this is now visible only at the E and W ends. The rampart has been almost levelled, while the ditch, about 3m in width, is largely filled up.

There is a rectangular enclosure of no great age on the SW slope of the hill.
