The base of a cairn, said to be that on which a king sat to pass judgement, on Sheriff Melville (see NO77SE 2) among others. 'Kenshot' is said to be a corruption of 'King's Seat'.
Statistical Account (OSA) 1794; Name Book 1863.
The scant, turf-covered remains of a cairn of rubble stones, about 8.0m in diameter and 0.4m height, are situated on the summit of King's Seat Hill. Neither the name nor the tradition are known locally.

In the NE corner of an arable field 90m SSW of the OS Triangulation Station on the summit of Kenshot Hill, there is a cairn measuring 7.5m in diameter by 0.4m in height.
