Activities

Field Visit (22 February 2018)

Two powder magazines, part of the infrastructure of the quarry (NT57SE 171), are located on the broad terrace on the N flank of Traprain Law, some 70 SW of the car park. The W magazine, principally built in stone, was constructed sometime between the survey for the 2nd edition of the OS 25-inch map (Haddingtonshire 1894, Sheet 11.1) in 1892 and the survey undertaken in 1906 prior to the revised map being published a year later. The E magazine, constructed mainly in concrete, is later in date. Both are fitted with secure doors and were not accessible on the date of visit.

Visited by HES Survey and Recording (GFG, AM) 22 February 2018.
