Geophysical evidence within Dovecote Park, geophysics report feature (3).
A relatively well-defined rectilinear response (3) is apparent. Any interpretation is cautious as the ground cover in this area is very varied with tractor ruts etc. However, it may relate to a large henhouse and yard shown on the 1770 estate map (feature B15).

A small building shown only on the 1770 Brown plan, close to the site of the later Laundry. On the Brown plan it is within Dove cott Park, although no dovecot is shown, while Pigeon house is shown on Cormack’s hill on the 1824 McLean plan. Goulty (1998) refers to accounts to John Ross, mason, for building a hen house in Dove Cott Park in the 1730s. No remains of this building have been identified on the ground. In the geophysical survey a relatively well-defined rectilinear response is apparent (A14). This is cautiously related under A14 to a large henhouse and yard shown on the 1770 estate map although not closely overlaying to any mapped features in 1770 or later.
