The National Trust for Scotland (NTS) commissioned Peter McGowan Associates in August 2013 to undertake an historical landscape survey of Brodie castle and estate and to investigate the development of its archaeological and designed landscape by surveys and research to provide information for the future management of the landscape and its gardens, policies and woodland.
The primary tasks of the survey and research work comprised a site
familiarisation or ‘walk-over’ survey, undertaken jointly by the landscape
architect and archaeologist, followed by detailed research and site survey tasks. These included landscape assessment, a topographic survey of the core of the landscape and a re-survey of the significant trees by plotting and scheduling. Site surveys were undertaken in the period September 2013 to April 2014.
