Activities

Field Visit (1999 - 2000)

A series of three ponds are visible within the grounds, two nearby Ossian’s Hall, and one to the NW. The far pond has two stone slab bridges crossing the streams that run in and out of it respectively. The outflow has been recently renovated, at the same time the trees were removed (B. Notley, pers comm.). The pond is clay lined, and appears to be about 0.6m deep. The structure of the other ponds is assumed to be the same. Watercourses associated with the ponds are still active, although their entire length has not been uncovered. They are known to go below-ground using constructed culverts.

Originally the ponds were stocked with fish and freshwater mussels, according to early accounts (Dingwall 1995). The length of time for which they were stocked for is unknown.
