An archaeological survey of the North Perthshire Properties (Dunkeld - Stanley Hill, Tay riverbank and the Hermitage, Killiecrankie, Linn of Tummel and Craigower summit) was conducted during the winter of 1999-2000. The results largely confirmed what was known already about the various properties: that the Dunkeld properties were heavily influenced by mid- to late 18th century landscape design, much of which survives; and that the Killiecrankie/Pitlochry properties were little settled, but nevertheless have several well-preserved remains dating to the past 300 years.

A wide diversity of monument types are recorded, including a small settlement, bridges and communication routes, remnants of two garden schemes and several features relating to management of the River Garry. Most features are in a stable condition with little apparent threat.

The far pond has two stone slab bridges crossing the streams that run in and out of it respectively. The outflow has been recently renovated, at the same time the trees were removed (B. Notley, pers comm.). The pond is clay lined, and appears to be about 0.6m deep. The structure of the other ponds is assumed to be the same. 1001560	RECORDING	FIELD VISIT	The arched bridge over the river Braan is built from rough, mortared stone, with a free-standing doorway on the southern side. This had a gate attached, although this has been removed. The bridge has had some repairs carried out, apparent from the iron ties set in places along its sides. Underneath its northern end, the bridge contains a small arch giving access to the ledge below Ossian’s Hall and to the small grotto noted above. [...]	1999
