Field Walking (7 April 2012)
A desk study and walk-over survey were conducted along the route of a proposed new hydro-electric scheme near Pirnmill on the NW coast of Arran. The field survey was undertaken on 7 April 2012. At NR 87690 43794 the pipeline will cut through the former head-dyke of Alltgobhlach farmstead, a stone and earth bank surviving to over 1m high in places. The scant remains of two unrecorded buildings were found a short distance to the N of the dyke. At NR 87626 43871 was a structure measuring 5.0m by 2.7m and at NR 87657 43914 was another measuring 3.5m by 2.7m. A few patches of rig and furrow were also visible in this area.
