Archaeology Notes

NO24SW 11 c. 2219 4040

(NO 222 404) A number of stone 'coffins' containing human bones were found when excavating for the foundations of an entrance lodge at Princeland, Coupar-Angus. The cists were very rudely fashioned from slabs of the native red sandstone.

Scot Antiq 1899

Activities

Field Visit (10 February 1969)

The entrance lodge, at NO 2219 4040, was built in 1900 on the site of an old quarry. Major Wilson, of Princeland, Coupar Angus, is doubtful about the cists being found there and always understood that they were found at approx NO 2224 4049, when the new carriage drive was constructed c.1900.

Visited by OS (WDJ) 10 February 1969.

Field Visit (4 April 1989)

The sites of these cists cannot now be located.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS) 4 April 1989.
