Activities

Field Visit (5 September 2007)

A cleit stands on a grass terrace at the head of an unnamed burn that flanks the W perimeter of the head dyke before it defiles into Village Bay. The cleit occupies a low mound and remains partially roofed with only a little of its turf cap surviving. A grass grown boulder wall runs from W to E down the slope to the SW corner of the mound and continues S after a break of 9.5m, where it follows the E side of the burn for a further 21m. A stone with a dished upper surface lies on the ground 9m to the E of the cleit; this is identified by Andrew Fleming as a rock basin.
