NLO: Ornsay [name centred NG 710 127]
Sound of Sleat [name centred NG 72 09]
Skye [name centred NG 45 35].
Location formerly entered as NG c. 710 127 [N57 8.9 W5 47.2].
Corry, by Broadford, 24th Oct. The DART (smack), of Montrose, bound to Easdale slate quarries, in ballast, drove from her anchors in Isle Ornsay harbour 21st Oct., and is now on shore there, but not much damaged.
Source: LL, No. 15,771, London, Thursday, October 27 1864.
NMRS, MS/829/72 (no. 10687).
The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative. Ornsay harbour is presumably the area between Ornsay (to the SE) and the island of Skye (to the W and NW). The 1998 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map notes Harbour [NAT] around NG 705 128.
The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), presumably accepting her successful recovery.
Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 22 February 2008.
