Human bones have been turned up a few yards to the N of Hangie's Well, a well traditionally used by the executioner after executions at the nearby Gallowshade (Name Book 1865; NSA 1842).

The well was quite dry in August 1936 (O G S Crawford, undated).

Activities

Field Visit (19 February 1969)

Hangie's Well is a small, overgrown, natural spring with a slight issue of water. There is nothing to be seen at the site where the human remains were found.

No identifiable remains of this burial were noted on the date of visit. Its location is only approximately recorded. Visited by RCAHMS (JRS) 18 May 1989.
