Activities

Desk Based Assessment (5 September 2017)

Nothing now remains of the jetty at Scott’s Shipbuilding and Engineering Company’s Cartsburn Shipyard (NS27NE 449). It was constructed during a modernisation programme undertaken by the firm between 1900 and 1912 and is depicted on the 3rd edition of the OS 25-inch map (Renfrewshire 1914, Sheet 002.06) as a continuation of the large dock basin (NS27NE 29.02) at the centre of the yard, projecting 44m NNE in to the Clyde. The 1:1250 OS Town Plan of Greenock (1965, Sheet NS2875NE (and part of NS2876SE)) depicts a leading light (Fixed Red over Green) at the end of the jetty and crane at its southern end.
