OS 6" map, Perthshire, 2nd ed., (1901)
Scheduled as Ardgilzean Cottage, mound... oval burial cairn.
Information from Historic Scotland, scheduling document dated 9 October 2001.
Field Visit (21 October 1963)
A large stony mound in a small area of trees. The mound measures 32.0m N-S x 26.0m E-W and has a maximum height of 2.5m on the west side. The top has been levelled and now measures 18.0m N-S x 15.5m E-W. A cart track leads up on to the mound from the SE, and it has become a dumping area for field stones.
Revised at 1/2500.
Visited by OS (WDJ) 21 October 1963.
Field Visit (15 December 1964)
This is more probably a Motte with bailey. It has a stone built foundation around the top.
Information from M E C Stewart, 15 December 1964.
Field Visit (4 April 1989)
The probable remains of a cairn lie buried beneath field-clearance about 330m WSW of Ardgilzean Cottage. The present mound is oval, measuring 32m by 27m and 2.5m in height, but the original cairn must have been smaller. The suggestion that the mound was a motte is unlikely.
Visited by RCAHMS (JRS) 4 April 1989.
G Stell 1985.
