Activities

Field Visit (29 August 1953)

'Monument sited on an earth & stone cairn. 21ft diameter.'

Information from M E C Stewart 29 August 1953.

Field Visit (22 October 1963)

Lynedoch Obelisk bears the date 1850. It stands on a stony mound 1.8m high and 16.0m in diameter, and is probably a cairn. Its top centre has been excavated to accommodate the obelisk. Altogether the mound is too large to have been constructed solely as a base for an obelisk only 0.95m square.

Visited by OS (R D L) 22 October 1963.

Field Visit (7 April 1989)

This cairn, which is surmounted by a 19th century memorial, is situated on the summit of Murrayshall Hill. It measures 14.5m in diameter by 1.5m in height, and there is a hollow in its centre.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS) 7 April 1989.

Field Visit (24 April 2017)

The sandstone plaque on the SE side of the obelisk reads 'To the Memory of Thomas Graham Lord Lyndoch. This Obelisk is dedicated'.

Visited by HES Survey and Recording (JRS) 24 April 2017.
