Activities

Publication Account (1999)

In several places, both in the heart of the village and beside it, are reminders of another important facet of village life-the quarries. Quarrying commenced in the late eighteenth century; it became and remained the most important source of local employment until well into the 1930s. One of the quarry holes now serves as the site of Deep Sea World. Nearby, Fortthside Terrace housed the quarry workmen.

Information from ‘Historic North Queensferry and the Peninsula: The Archaeological Implications of Development’ (1999).

Note (12 December 2011)

For cannon from The Pillow or Pillow Rock, Kirk Haven, Isle of May (May Island) now on display at Deep Sea world, see NT69NE 8069.
