Archaeology Notes

NS56NE 4873 56498 66439 to 56549 66406

For adjacent (to NW) sewage pumping station, see NS56NE 1081.

For Partick Bridge (adajcent to NE), see NS56NE 1080.

The main sewer crosses the [River] Kelvin on a roofed lattice-girder bridge, which also [formerly] carried a steam main to the Kelvin Hall (NS56NE 145).

J R Hume 1974.

This curious bridge is situated very close to Partick Bridge (NS56NE 1080) on its downstream side, and carries a very large pie across the river. Two routine steel lattice girders (painted white) form the spanning structure, which is covered by a pitched roof and adorned at each end of the span with a substantial sandstone 'building' featuring four corner towers with dome-shaped sheet metal hats.

E Williamson, A Riches and M Higgs 1990.

This bridge carries a single pipe (which bears the date 1904) across the River Kelvin, which here forms the boundary between the parishes of Govan (to the N) and Glasgow (to the S).

The ends of the bridge are castellated; the 'pitched roof' (photographed by John Hume in 1975) is no longer to be seen.

The mill lade (NS56NE 1076.01) supplying the Regent Mills passes under the S side of this bridge.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 1 December 2005 (visited November 2005).

NMRS, SC452086.
