Scope and Content Aqueduct carrying intercepting sewer over river Kelvin, Partick Bridge, Partick, Glasgow This aqueduct was built as part of a northern intercepting sewer, collecting the drainage from northern Glasgow, the burghs of Partick and Clydebank and other areas north of the Clyde and taking it to a sewage treatment works at Dalmuir. This view shows the aqueduct looking west towards the Partick Sewage Pumping Works, with its ornamented gable. The ogee-capped piers and felted roof conceal a lattice truss span carrying a large-diameter cast iron sewer pipe. The sewage pumping station was originally steam-powered (until c1960) and when the Kelvin Hall was built as an exhibition hall in the 1920s steam for heating it was supplied from the station boilers, via a steam main along this aqueduct.
