St Anne's Church, Dowally, was built in 1500 and described as a "long, narrow, inelegant structure". It became ruinous in 1755, and was repaired only to be replaced in 1818 with a new building almost on the site of the old.

Standing Building Recording (25 September 2020)
NO 00139 4801 A photographic and written survey was carried out by Derek Hall Archaeologist and Ceramic Specialist of the 18th-century church at Dowally, prior to its conversion into holiday accommodation. The work was done on 25 September 2020.

Watching Brief (11 November 2021)
NO 00139 48010 New trenches for drainage and water supply to the remodelled church building were recorded on 11 November 2021. No human remains were recovered, and all exposed foundations belonged to the current church there was no sign of anything relating to an earlier church on the site. New building works inside the church did not involve any below ground excavations.
