Single storey rectangular in plan stone built pump house situated at the SE corner of the East Graving Dry Dock. The building measures about 21m by 8m overall.
Ball finials and pitched slated roof, end gables with skewputts, two metal conical ventilators at the E end. Arched doorway in S elevation with three infilled arches in W gable and three bays in E gable. Windows are now boarded up.
The pumps were originally steam-powered, probably by vertical marine engines over the pumps. The W end of the pumphouse probably housed the boilers.
(Historic Scotland Listing notes, 1988).
Visited by RCAHMS (MKO), 18 October 2004.
Single-storey 5-bay gabled pumphouse, alongside the dry graving dock, with central arched doorway. Small-paned windows. End gables with skewputts and ball finials. Slate roof with large skylights and 2 conical-capped ventilators to E, over basement pumps. The pumps were originally steam-powered, probably by vertical marine engines over the pumps. The west end of the pumphouse probably housed the boilers. The chimney and two 5-ton cranes have been demolished. (Historic Environment Scotland List Entry)
The old harbour and docks, built 1815-30, were filled in when the Tay Road Bridge was constructed. Victoria and Camperdown Docks were begun in 1833 by James Leslie to Thomas Telford's design, by David Cunningham, passage between them spanned by a hand operated iron swing footbridge.

Standing Building Recording (10 October 2023)
NO 41220 30417 AOC Archaeology Group was commissioned to carry out a Level 2 historic building recording of the former Pump House at East graving Dock Dundee. The Pump House is an example of utilitarian Victorian architecture built for purpose, this being said there is a degree of decoration with ball finals to each gable and possible decorative arching on the west elevation. The building shows some degree of deterioration with slipped and missing roof slates, damaged guttering and downpipes, as well as deterioration of the stonework.
