OS 6" map (1958)
'The site of an ancient house or stronghold which was situated on a knoll surrounded by a mote or ditch. The remains of the building were removed and the ditch filled up about twenty years ago (c.1840)...John the Bangster...is said to have been a robber..'
Name Book 1860
The site of John the Bangster's House is on a slight rise in the centre of a hollow in an arable field now under crop. Although the farmer (Fintalich Farm) drained the area this year, nothing significant was found.
