Field Visit (14 May 2007)

A square concrete stance and a group of 29 cleits stretch across the summit and upper slopes of Mullach Sgar to either side of the road leading SSW to Ruaival. The stance (Hirta 2062) is 19m to the WSW of the road and is mounted by a square block located off-centre to the S. Of the cleits, only two retain their roofs and turf caps (Hirta 528, 536), twelve remain partially roofed, ten are roofless and in ruinous condition, and a further five have been reduced to little more than grass grown stony mounds.
